Recruiting roundup: Whitlock finds Wake Forest home

Wylie's Nikita Whitlock got his Wake Forest offer and took it. The Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year, Whitlock's recruiting had been slow despite his high production in leading Wylie to the 5A Division II state final.
Whitlock only had received marginal interest from major colleges who were uncertain his 5-11, 240-pound noseguard skills would translate into success at the next level.

Wake Forest coaches picked up interest in Whitlock last week after linebacker recruit Spencer Shuey looked like he was locking in on Clemson according to www.deaconsillustrated.com.
Wake Forest projects Whitlock to stay the same height and make a transition to linebacker.
Wake Forest is developing quite the Wylie pipeline. Wylie running back Chris Givens signed with the Deacons last year. Wake Forest is recruiting Wylie 2010 running back Nick Knott.
In other recruiting news from the weekend, North Texas secured several commitments, including a pledge from two-star defensive end Chris Knighton of Longview and two-star Houston North Forest athlete De'Andre Stewart.
