Waco High Stuns Everman

WACO - The city of Waco has not been kind to Everman in 2010 as the Bulldogs in two trips came away on the wrong end of defeats and Friday's loss was without a doubt crushing.
The Waco Lions (5-6) was able to escape with a bizarre 24-21 win over Everman (8-3) in a Class 4A Region I Division II Bi-District Playoff at Waco ISD Stadium.

With little more than a minute left and leading by just three Waco had a punt blocked deep in their own territory, but Everman inexplicably attempted to pick up the loose football and after the ball was touched Waco was able to pounce on the football and take a knee twice to end the game.
Everman jumped out to a quick 14-0 after back to back touchdown runs by James Bailey of 6 and 77 yards. Bailey would finish the night with 199 yards on the ground to lead the Everman offense.
Waco would score 24 straight points in the second and third quarter to take a commanding 24-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Waco would only use three ball carriers on the night and they were able to rack up 308 yards on the ground paced by Dennis Gibson who had 116 yard and two touchdowns.
Everman would cut the lead to 24-21 in the fourth on an eight yard run by Kasey Cook and with less than three minutes left they would move inside the Waco twenty but were stopped on downs. Everman's defense would hold Waco three and out setting up the final sequence in which Waco clinched the win.
The loss for Everman ends a streak of eleven straight bi-district playoff wins. Waco will take on defending Class 4A Division II State Champion Aledo in an area playoff next Friday at Aledo.
