Wood named offensive player of year
BRYAN, Texas (AP) — It was a family affair for the Muleshoe Mules in the Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 2A all-state football team.
With 64 TDs and only eight interceptions, Muleshoe quarterback Wes Wood has been named offensive player of the year for the Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 2A all-state football team. His cousin, Lane, was named co-defensive player of the year and his father, David, was named coach of the year.
Wes Wood completed 278 of 429 pass attempts for 4,546 yards while leading the Mules to the Division I state championship. Lane Wood, a linebacker, had 163 tackles and 11 quarterback pressures. Daingerfield linebacker Carl Moore, who shared defensive player of the year honors, had 174 tackles, including 33 for a loss.
