THSCA ANNOUNCES ALL-STAR COACHES FOR ANNUAL ALL-STAR GAMES
The Texas High School Coaches Association is pleased to announce the coaches for the 2006 THSCA All-Star Football and Basketball games. The All-Star games are held in conjunction with the Annual THSCA Coaching School, which this year will be held in Austin, July 30-August 2, 2006.

Larry Dippel, head football coach at Amarillo High School since 1974, will coach the North Football team. While at Amarillo, Dippel has won over 200 games. He has a career record of 253-134-6 with 16 district championships. His teams have reached the quarterfinals four times with one semifinal appearance. He has coached 25 playoff teams. Coach Dippel has been named District Coach of the Year fourteen times. He has been a member of the THSCA for 42 years and served on the Board of Directors from 1975-78. He also served on the North All-Star Selection Committe in 1989 and chaired that committee in 1990. He was elected president of the THSCA in 1998-99 and was the 1993 winner of the Tom Landry Award. Coach Dippel was inducted into the THSCA Hall of Honor in 1997 and received the AFCA's prestigious "Power of Influence Award" in 2003. In 2004, he was inducted into the Hardin-Simmons Hall of Honor.
George Harris, head coach at Gregory-Portland High School since 2001 will coach the South Football team. Coach Harris began his career in 1960 at Gregory-Portland under the legendary Ray Akins. After 22 years he moved to Refugio where he served 10 years as Defensive Coordinator. He took over the reins at Refugio in 1992 and posted a 106-17-1 record with 8 district championships and only one district loss. Since returning to Gregory-Portland the Cats have posted a 49-15 record with play off appearances in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Coach Harris is a past member of the THSCA Board of Directors.
In basketball, Palo Duro's Jeff Evans will coach the North team. Coach Evans is in his 15th year of coaching, 10 of those years as a head coach. Head coach at Palo Duro since 2000, Evans' teams have won three undefeated district championships, four bi-district championships and four area championships. The Dons, under his direction have advanced to the regional finals twice winning a berth in the state tournament in 2005. His record at Palo Duro is 125-45 and his career record is 188-106. The South Basketball coach will be Bruce King of Brenham High School. In his three years at Brenham, he has led the Cubs to three straight regional quarterfinal berths with a record of 61-14. In his 19 years of head coaching experience, King has compiled a record of 428 wins and 154 losses. He has guided his teams to 14 state playoff appearances while coaching at 2A Yorktown, 3A Devine, 3A Liberty Hill and 4A Brenham.
