Additionally, perennial state contender Bay City is looking for a new head football coach – again. Danny Edelman departed after a 6-5 season last fall to fill the vacancy at Sam Houston in Arlington, which is coming off a 0-9 campaign.
Edelman arrived in Bay City from Red Oak after Bay City went 2-8 in 2006 under HFC Alan Cherry and missed the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. In the past 10 years, Bay City has advanced to 4A state championship games on four occasions: 1998, 2000, 01 and '03.
One of the most interesting openings remains at 3A Andrews, where a new $15 million athletic facility on its campus and a nearly $90,000 salary is attracting applicants from 10 states.
Last year, more than 175 Texas high schools changed coaches between the 2006 and '07 seasons.
