TCU gets West Mesquite dual-threat QB

TCU, continuing to build its program, as the major conferences re-shuffle, got another top commit coming off the Frogs' Fiesta Bowl berth last season.
Standout West Mesquite quarterback Trevon Boykin committed to the Frogs. He's a 6-1, 200-pound with a great arm and good feet. He was the District 15-4A MVP as a junior with 3,046 yards of total offense and 37 touchdowns.

He's an athlete, but will be looked at as a quarterback first. He's sort of a smaller version of Sulphur Springs star Tyrik Rollison who transferred this spring from Auburn to Sam Houston State.
Boykin just led West Mesquite to the Red Bull 7-on-7 regional tournament championship last week at the Cotton Bowl and two weeks ago led the Wranglers to just their second appearance in the 7 on 7 State Tournament. He's another in the profile of players which Coach Gary Patterson has indentified as someone not hitting the measurables of some big schools, but who is a dynamic player who will be able to contribute at some position if not quarterback.
TCU has committed athletic Kolby Griffin of St. Pius X in Houston. He projects as a defensive back for TCU's smaller but suffocating defense. TCU also had a commit from a dual threat QB in Dominic Merka of Crosby.
But Boykin has shown so well in numerous 7-on-7 competitions with excellent arm strength and a vast improvement in accuracy.
