Six Turnovers Propel Duncanville to Upset of Odessa Permian

SAN ANTONIO- Duncanville's defense forced six Odessa Permian turnovers in a 33-14 win on Saturday at the Alamodome. Duncanville (1-0) had four interceptions of Odessa Permian QB Steven Pipes on the night, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Duncanville's Ashton Neroes led the effort with two interceptions.
Odessa Permian (0-1) took an early 7-0 on the game's opening drive as DeAnthony Fay scored on a one yard run. The key play on the drive was a 28 yard pass from Pipes to WR Tommey Morris setting up the fourth and goal touchdown. Duncanville would answer in the second quarter with three Nate Warren field goals from 20, 28 and 31 yards out respectively. The first scoring drive would prove costly as QB Divian Ealy left the game with an apparent ankle injury and did not return.

Odessa Permian early in the fourth quarter would take the lead back at 14-9 as Pipes would score on an 18 yard run. Duncanville would have a quick answer as WR Darrin Brown hauled in a 35 yard touchdown toss from backup QB Charles Williams. On the ensuing possession the game would swing squarely in the Panthers direction as with Permian driving to take the lead back Duncanville LB Stephon Lanigan stepped in front of a Pipes pass and sprinted 91 yards to paydirt to give DHS an insurmountable 23-14 edge.
Warren would add a fourth field goal in the fourth quarter to make the score 26-14 as the balanced Duncanville offense wore down the MOJO defense. Thomas Hill added an exclamation point with a 44 yard interception return for a score to close the scoring.
