LONGVIEW - The Cayuga backfield of Malcome Kennedy and Traylon Shead were nearly unstoppable Friday night in the Class A-Region III, Division II area playoff game against Simms-Bowie.
Shead rushed for three touchdowns and Malcome Kennedy ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in a 48-7 win Friday night at Spring Hill High School.
Cayuga (10-1) advances to face Lovelady in the regional semifinals next week. The game will be played Friday night but a location had not been determined Friday night.
Against Bowie, the backfield combination of Kennedy and Shead accounted for 448 of Cayuga's 546 yards of offense. Neither player saw the field in the fourth quarter.
Shead rushed for 155 yards on 12 carries. His three touchdowns tie him with Caddo Mill's Nate Jeffrey with 134 career touchdowns. Both players are two behind the all-time lead of 136 touchdowns by Jazquizz Rodgers.
Kennedy had a game-high 206 yards on 11 carries and he threw for 87 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown pass to Billy Duncan in the third quarter.
Cayuga scored on its first three possessions starting when Shead off the option got to the sideline and scored on a 44-yard run.
Bowie gave Cayuga a short field after not converting on fourth down from its 36-yard line. Four plays later, out of the Wildcat formation with Shead taking the direct snap, he went up the middle for the 10-yard score.
Cayuga took a 21-0 lead two minutes into the second quarter when Kennedy on a keeper, got through the middle of the line and the raced to the sideline and went untouched for a 65-yard touchdown run.
Cayuga's offense stalled for a bit in the second quarter but the Wildcats finished the first half in a bang.
After the team's traded interceptions, Duncan picked off a Bowie pass on the Cayuga 4-yard line with 30 seconds left.
Shead picked up 15 yards on the first play. Then Shead got the handoff again, but after he hit a wall of traffic, he flipped the ball back to Kennedy, who reversed fieldand went 81 yards to score with four seconds left in the half, giving Cayuga a comfortable 28-0 lead.
