With his performance Friday night against Cross Roads, the Cayuga senior running back moved to third all-time in career rushing yards in Texas high school football.
"It says a lot about what Traylon has done in his four years at high school," Cayuga head coach Tommy Allison said.
Shead rushed for 240 yards on eight carries against Cross Roads. Shead came into Friday night in sixth place on the career rushing yard list but he surpassed Robert Straight, Cedric Benson and Rodney Thomas to move into third. Shead has rushed for 8,623 yards in his career.
"Traylon has put himself as one of the most elite backs to run in the state of Texas," Allison said. "He has become a complete back that can run through defenders and still make them miss."
Shead only trails Wes Danaher of C.C. Calallen by 232 yards and the ultimate record held by Kenneth Hall of Sugarland by 2,609 yards.
Shead also moved into the top 5 in career touchdowns when the Cayuga running back rushed for four scores against Cross Roads. He has 116 career touchdowns, moving past Danaher and Thomas.
After two games with less than 100 yards in each one, Shead looks to be getting back on track. He has rushed for 424 yards and eight touchdowns in the last two games.
