Saturday State Championship Recap

ARLINGTON-- In what was supposed to be a coronation of DFW dominance in the heart of the Metroplex the three Metroplex teams who played for a state championship all went down in defeat on Saturday.

The highlight of the night was the final in the 5A Division I bracket as Pearland stunned number one ranked Trinity 28-24 to clinch their first ever state championship.
In the middle game Cibolo Steele won their first ever state championship in the 5A Division II bracket knocking off Denton Guyer 28-24.
The Lake Travis Cavaliers cemented their legacy as one of the greatest dynasties in state history with their fourth straight state championship with a dominant 27-7 win over Denton Ryan.
In that opener won by Lake Travis (14-2), the Cavaliers defense overshadowed the highly touted Denton Ryan (14-1) defense with a stellar effort holding the Ryan offense to just six first downs and none in the first half in a 27-7 win in front of 20,487.
Quarterback Michael Brewer who earned offensive MVP honors for LTHS ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 211 yards. LB Austin Williams was the defensive MVP for the Cavaliers.
In the middle game, Texas commit RB Malcolm Brown scored the game winning touchdown with 2:29 remaining led the Cibolo Steele Knights (14-2) to a 24-21 win over Denton Guyer (13-3) in front of 37,744. Brown finished with 112 yards and two touchdowns on the ground along with a 19 yard touchdown reception.
Defensive MVP Ryan Simmons led Steele with eight tackles and an interception.
Denton Guyer QB J.W. Walsh ran for 123 yards and a touchdown to lead Guyer, DB Kwame Clark sealed the win for Steele with an interception as Guyer was looking to potentially tie the game.
The much anticipated finale turned out to be a classic as the Pearland Oilers (16-0) stunned the Euless Trinity Trojans (15-1) 28-24 in front of 43,321.
Pearland running back Dustin Garrison earned offensive MVP honors with 124 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in addition to breaking up Trinity's last ditch pass to Brandon Carter on 4th and ten with thirteen seconds left.
Samuel Ukwuachu earned defensive MVP honors with eight tackles and a fumble recovery in addition to hauling in a 54 yard touchdown pass from Trey Anderson.
