San Antonio Clark Rolls to Homecoming Win

SAN ANTONIO- For the alumni of Tom C. Clark High School of San Antonio who made the trek to Gustafson Stadium Friday night to attend the Clark homecoming, their time was well spent. The Cougars (4-0) defeat of the Stevens Falcons (2-2) could wind up being the district championship game when all is said and done. Tonight's victory can be attributed to the offensive line of Clark, who spent their evening opening up holes the size of Culebra Road for Ryan Jones, Hayden Greenbauer and Co.
The hogs started their conquest early on Friday night, opening up holes for Ryan Jones for nearly the length of the field. The Cougs drove from their own 24 to the Stevens 8 yard line in four plays before a couple of penalties took them back to the twenty. At this point Hayden Greenbauer decided to show off his arm, and completed one of his only two completions on the night with a touchdown pass to Joe Vasquez. Although there were only two completions on the night for Greenbauer, he only attempted four passes the entire night because of the dominance of the big boys up front.

The game was not the prettiest played in recent memory. Eight penalties that were committed by Clark were offset by 3 turnovers key turnovers made on the Falcons' behalf. Coach Lloyd Alexander admits that the penalties were coachable mistakes by his team and fortunately did not affect the final outcome.
A key turnover came late in the third period, just after a Tevin Glasgow touchdown put Clark up 24-14. Stevens fumbled the kickoff to give Clark great field position at the Stevens 34. This set up a Hayden Greenbauer touchdown from 2 yards out that effectively sealed the game with less than ten minutes left. Stevens' John Tyson was able to score a touchdown with 4:13 left to bring the score to 31-21, but this proved to be an exercise in futility because there was simply not enough time left in the game for Stevens to truly make a run.
District play continues next week for both teams. Clark takes on Marshall (0-3), while Stevens will play Taft (2-1).
