Record-setting WR recaps The Catch

One of the most memorable moments in Texas high school football last season was a tremendous one-handed touchdown catch by Navasota (Texas) wide receiver Tren'Davian Dickson in the 4A Division 1 state championship game against Argyle.
With the crowd going wild at Cowboys Stadium, the Rattlers were driving on Argyle with around six minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the game tied at 14-14. Facing a 3rd and 9 from the 30 yard-line, Navasota quarterback Shelton Eppler looked down the right sideline, found Dickson on a go route and threw a long pass down the field into double coverage.

Then it happened, the ball barely snuck by two Argyle defenders and Dickson made the now infamous one-handed touchdown catch, just barely securing the ball before crashing down into the end zone to put Navasota ahead 20-14.
Dickson quickly popped up from the turf and mimicked Dez Bryant's 'throw up the X' touchdown celebration, sending the crowd and several watching into a frenzy that continued online - especially on social media as fans discussed 'The Catch' well into the off season.
"In the moment, I didn't really think it was that great of a catch," Dickson said. "In the heat of the moment, I just thought it was a touchdown and I was excited that we took the lead. It was another play for me at the time, but I finally realized that it had turned into a popular play afterwards.
"My friends were texting me and telling me that I just got famous for making a catch. I was like 'whoa, okay' and didn't really know what to think. I actually watched it a few times and it was a crazy catch, but I just happened to have my eye on the ball and made a play."
Navasota won the state championship that day over Argyle 42-35 in a high-scoring game, obviously highlighted by 'The Catch', and Dickson finished the game with 12 receptions for 175 yards and four touchdowns.
The standout prospect broke the longstanding state record for touchdown receptions in a single season with 39 (yes 39) total touchdown receptions this past season - an accomplish that Dickson credits to the hard work put in when nobody else is looking.
"Well, I can tell you that 39 wasn't the goal going into the season," Dickson laughed. "I did want at least 20-22 touchdowns going into the season, but breaking the state record and all of that wasn't even on my mind at all. My quarterback and I started clicking at the state 7-on-7 tournament last year and we rolled that momentum right into fall practice, then into the season. I ended up scoring on the first play of the season and it clicked from there.
"In terms of breaking the record and what it means to me, that's just work. You put in the work and beautiful stuff happens. I just go up to the school here at Navasota and run bleachers, run hills and all sorts of things to help me become more explosive and better on the field. I like working out by myself, it helps me focus and it's an everyday thing."
So what are Dickson's goals going into his senior season and how does the standout prospect improve upon his record-setting junior season?
"I'm just focused on winning another state championship with my teammates," Dickson said. "That's all that really matters to me and whatever comes along with that will be great."
Dickson committed to Texas this week, becoming commit No. 7 for the Longhorns in the 2016 class. The standout prospect chose Texas over his other finalists Alabama, Texas A&M, Baylor and USC after receiving nearly 20 FBS offers throughout the recruiting process.
Rated a three-star prospect, the 6-foot, 170-pound receiver is the No. 65 wide out in the nation and the No. 46 player on the Rivals.com Texas Spring Top 100 for the 2016 class.
He finished with 90 receptions for 2,163 yards and 39 touchdowns receiving along with two touchdowns rushing - earning the District 11-4A MVP and APSE First-Team All-State honors this past season.
