New name adding to Detmer Legacy.. What I Hear

Starring in the championship bracket of the State 7-on-7 Division II championship was all-tournament quarterback Stevie Dorman, who happens to be coached by grandfather Sonny Detmer. Dorman's mom is the sister of Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Ty Detmer.
Dorman (6-4, 210) passed for 5,334 yards and 52 TDs the last two years. He's getting major college looks but hasn't committed and he's only third in the family's passing legacy right now.

Before winning the Heisman Trophy in 1990 at BYU, Ty threw for 8,005 yards at San Antonio Southwest younger brother Koy Detmer threw for 8,221 yards at Mission. Don't forget, Ty Detmer is the first year coach at Austin St. Andrew's in the SPC.
Somerset also had another NFL legacy with Wake Forest commit linebacker/safety Will Harlos is the nephew of Jim Bob Taylor, one-time quarterback for the Baltimore Colts.
Other not-so-known legacies who looked good this summer are speedy Class of 2012 DB Haywood Jeffries of Pearland Dawson's fast-rising power which reached the Class 4A Division I state semifinals last year. Jeffires'dad (Haywood) was a mercurial but successful receiver at NC State and the Houston Oilers in the 1990s.
There's another Houston Oiler son to watch of newly named UIL All-Century Defensive Team Ray Childress. Houston Kinkaid's 2012 quarterback Ford Childress played tight end as a sophomore but the 6-4, strong-armed junior is working hard in summer camps and private lessons to establish himself as a top prospect while playing in the private school league SPC.
All ties Coppell in DII championship game
Brownwood defeated Cameron Yoe in the DII championship game at the 7-on-7 tournament. Brownwood coach Bob Shipley was Coppell's coach in 2007-08 and the stars of the '07 freshman team were Jaxon Shipley, Jack Rhoades and Tre Anderson and Cam McDaniel _ all coaches' kids brought in on the new staff.
The Shipley's are at Brownwood with Jaxon committed to Texas for the '11 Class. The defensive coordinator was current Yoe coach Rick Rhoades. The Yoeman will be a Class 2A team to watch with Jack Rhoades playing quarterback and receiver/defensive back Tre Anderson _ the son of assistant coach Billy Anderson, who arrived at Coppell from Arlington Lamar.
Cam McDaniel, with his dad former Prosper HC Danny McDaniel, remains with the Cowboys as an all-purpose running back and situational safety although Danny McDaniel's is limited to dad-coaching-7-on-7-team role
Abilene has new offensive star to watch and the Last Word
The Class 5A Division II defending state champ Eagles already return running back Herschel Sims and cousin Ronnell Sims at quarterback.
The Eagles also will have athletic, speedy, 6-1 senior receiver Darius Joseph who will have to be double-teamed. Joseph barely played last season with an injury but looks to have returned to full health.
Herschel Sims is an electric, game-changer running back/receiver/returner who has committed to Oklahoma State.
Herschel also is one of the three running backs on the cover of Theoldcoach.com "Friday Night Football" first annual preseason magazine.
When we showed Herschel the cover in which he's included on the cover with Cibolo Steele's Malcolm Brown in between Hershel and San Antonio Madison's Aaron Green, Herschel showed the classic Running Back Attitude when he said:
"I thought I was supposed to be the one in the middle," Hershel said with a smile.
