MANSFIELD - The Mansfield Timberview Wolves (5-1, 3-0) put together what was easily their most dominating performance of the 2014 season as they blasted the Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles (3-3, 1-2) 56-14 in a District 14-5A contest at Newsom Stadium, in anticipation of potential severe weather in the area kickoff of the game was moved up an hour to 6:30pm.
Timberview was led by versatile SMU verbal commit Myron Gailliard who had two big punt returns of 60 and 39 yards in the first quarter, both of which led to touchdowns as the Wolves raced out to a 42-0 halftime lead. He finished the night with five receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. Gailliard's first big punt return of 60 yards set up Timberview's first score, a 19 yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Devin Williams making it 7-0. Williams finished the night an extremely efficient 10/12 passing for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
After recovering an onside kick, it appeared Timberview would punt, but punter Jeremy Nwonumah (who runs the 200 meters for the Wolves track team) scampered around right end 46 yards for a score and a 14-0 THS lead. Gailliard's second long punt return would set up a third score for Timberview and a 21-0 edge. Gailliard wasn't done as his 44 yard touchdown reception from Williams would give Timberview a commanding 28-0 edge. Timberview would add two more touchdowns to close out a dominant first half in which they outgained Lake Ridge 363 yards to 76 yards.
Mansfield Lake Ridge would get on the board in the third quarter as Tyshawn Suddoth returned a Timberview fumble 66 yards for a score to make it 42-7, while Duke Carter would close the scoring for LRHS with a short touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
"The first half was our most complete half of football all year," said Mansfield Timberview HC James Brown. "We had a few special teams errors in the first few games and we got a lot of that cleaned up during the off week and we were much better. Our defense did a good job containing Jett (Duffey) and Duke (Carter) and we played great team football. We have a lot of guys who can make plays on offense and it keeps us fresh and allows us to control tempo, Devin (Williams) really controls the game for us and allows us to be so multiple on offense. It was overall we were prepared and it was a good team win."
