Clausen, 58, also has served a term as president of the athletic director association.
The Grand Prairie ISD hopes to have a replacment making the transition in April. Clausen has been credited with vastly improving facilities throughout the GP ISD. Two indoor facilities have been opened recently as Grand Prairie and South Grand Prairie high schools.
"I still plan to be active, live in the area and may do some consulting work," Clausen said. "But it's time for me to let someone else to the day-to-day thing."
Clausen came to Grand Prairie after six years as an AD assistant to Don Poe in the Irving ISD. Clausen also coached under Poe at South Garland. He also coached under Don Denbow at Corsicana and was a coach on the 1993 staff of the Texas HS Coaches Association All-Star game.
Clausen was head coach at Loveland and Omaha Paul Pewitt.
