Giddings Fitzhenry will stay

Giddings coach Derek Fitzhenry spent the weekend trying to decide whether he'd leave the Class 3A school for a rebuilding job at Class 5A Pasadena dobie outside Houston.
It was a story that had the Central Texas town on edge last week as reported on theoldcoach.com.

Fitzhenry, 43, told the Austin American-Statesman on Monday afternoon he'd decided to stay.
"I needed to talk to my family about the move and talk to some people back in Giddings," Fitzhenry said. "A lot of people came to me and wanted me to stay. You get close to these people. A lot of it was a family decision but being in Giddings, we enjoy it."
Giddings has a 67-19 in the last seven years under Fitzhenry as his son Brock Fitzhenry helped turned the program into a state title contender. Brock signed with Texas two years ago. Spencer Fitzhenry is a highly regarded 2011 WR/DB prospect.
Fitzhenry has two years left on a three-year contract and is eligible for an extension in March.
