EVERMAN - Early Saturday morning Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Everman got their 2014 season started with a controlled scrimmage that featured no live quarter. Instead both teams ran through scripted sets of plays, with each first team offense running a total of 25 plays and the second teams running 18 plays.
Everman's first offense took the field and behind an experienced offensive line led by Eric Booker and Tony Davila they opened some big holes for backs Kierre Crossley and Darien Davis. Crossley broke off a 70 yard scoring run, while a 62 yard run by Davis set up a short scoring run by Crossley. Everman's first offense scored three times, but as the second team moved in they stalled and weren't as effective.
Arlington Heights first and second offense was able to score one team each on Everman's defense, Heights starting QB Deion Hair'Griffin took all the first and second team reps and looked good, showing a strong arm and plenty of elusiveness. Heights looked good up front, at times having their way with an Everman defense still trying to adapt to a change in scheme.
Crossley broke open another long touchdown run on the second set of just ten plays for Everman's first offense, QB Michael Boone showed Everman should be more balanced on offense this year hitting receivers on check down routes. When he sets his feet to throw, he's more than capable of delivering the ball on time. Everman's second offense didn't score on their final set of plays, but they did hit a long pass and looked more comfortable overall.
Arlington Heights didn't score on their final series of plays with the first and second team, but the Yellow Jackets had some success picking up a few first downs before the Everman defense bowed up.
Next week both teams will finish up the scrimmage portion of their schedule, Arlington Heights will host Burleson Centennial while Everman will visit Keller Timber Creek.
