MIDLAND- The Arlington Bowie Volunteers (9-3) rolled up 385 yards rushing en route to an easy 49-24 win over the El Paso Franklin Cougars (10-2) in a Class 5A Division I Region I Area Round Playoff at Grande Communications Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Junior running back Eric Rivers was the main culprit in the Bowie attack as he ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns along with throwing a 20 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Blake Bradford chipped in 130 yards rushing and a pair of scores as well to pace the BHS offense.
Rivers opened the scoring on the game's second play as sprinted around right end down the Franklin sideline for a 73 yard run to put Bowie up 7-0.
Franklin would respond with ten straight points to end the first quarter with a 10-7 advantage. Franklin's first score was a 35 yard field goal by Daniel Moreno, which capped a 19 play drive that took over seven minutes off the clock. After stopping Bowie on downs, Franklin took the lead on a 54 yard touchdown run by Vinnie Garcia making the score 10-7.
Arlington Bowie would rattle off three straight scores in the second quarter to take a commanding 28-10 halftime lead as Rivers would get his second score of the game on a 21 yard run. Rivers would then make Franklin pay for a critical mistake in the kicking game hitting Jordan Versey on a 20 yard pass to make it 21-10 Bowie. BHS would end the scoring in the first half with a 15 yard touchdown run by Brian Crossley for a 28-10 edge.
Franklin would make the game interesting on the opening drive of the second half as Christian Haack hauled in a tipped 17 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 28-17. Bowie however would put the game out of reach with a run of 21 straight points in the third and fourth quarter as Barnes would score twice on the ground and quarterback Kolby Listenbee would add a scoring run. Arlington Bowie will take on the winner of tomorrow's game between Cedar Hill and Southlake Carroll in the Class 5A Division I Region I Semi-Finals at a time and location to be determined.
ODESSA - The Lake Dallas Falcons (9-3) rolled up 493 yards of total offense as they came away with a dominating 48-7 win over the El Paso Burges Mustangs (9-3) in a Class 4A Division II Region I Area Round Playoff at Ratliff Stadium.
The Falcons utilized their many weapons throughout the evening, but the key cog in their engine was senior quarterback Dalyn Williams who threw for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Lake Dallas scored on their third play from scrimmage as Williams hooked up with Ferrando Joseph, Jr. on a 60 yard scoring strike to make the score 6-0 as the PAT failed. After an interception on the next drive for Burges, Lake Dallas drove right back down the field scoring on a seven yard run by Dontonio Jordan (who finished the night with a pair of scores) and from that point on LDHS never looked back.
The lead was extended to 20-0 later in the second quarter as Tre Dickerson scored from two yards out. Lake Dallas would end any hopes for a Burges comeback quickly at the start of the second half moving down the field in less than a minute to open the third quarter as Joseph caught his second touchdown pass of the night from Williams from 15 yards out making it 27-0. After recovering a popup kickoff, Lake Dallas needed just three plays to make it 34-0 as Dickerson got his second touchdown run of the night from eight yards out.
Lake Dallas would add a couple more tallies on the board with their backups seeing extensive action. Burges got their lone score of the night on a 17 yard pass from Joseph Zubiato Alvin Jones. Lake Dallas will take on Stephenville next Friday at 2pm at Northwest ISD Stadium in the Class 4A Division II Region I Semi-Finals.
