Enwere's Big Afternoon Paces Fort Bend Austin
SUGAR LAND - Fort Bend Austin (2-5, 2-2) got a key win in District 23-5A play on Saturday at Mercer Stadium, beating Fort Bend Travis (1-5, 1-3) 49-31. The win for the Bulldogs over Travis was their first in school history and a major reason was running back Vic Enwere who accounted for five touchdowns and over 300 yards of total offense (265 of which came on the ground).
After allowing a field goal on the game's opening series, Enwere answered back for AHS rattling off a 61 yard touchdown run in the wildcat formation giving the Bulldogs a 7-3 lead. Austin took a 21-3 lead in the second quarter as QB Sean Aboderin threw a pair of touchdown passes to Bryson Ogelsby and Enwere. Travis did fight back with a touchdown pass right before halftime making it 21-10 at the half.
After a muffed punt, the Tigers got right back in the game as Nick Harvey scored on a three yard run making the score 21-17 Austin. Enwere would have an answer as on the first play of Austin's ensuing possession the Cal commit broke off a 76 yard touchdown running making it 28-17 AHS. Not to be denied Harvey, a Texas A&M commit hauled in a 22 yard touchdown reception cutting the lead back to 28-24.
The fourth quarter would be totally dominated by Austin as the Bulldogs scored the first 21 points of the quarter, with Enwere scoring on two of those runs as a close game was turned into a 49-24 laugher. Travis would add a touchdown for decoration with under a minute left for the final margin of 49-24.
Langham Creek Wins a Slugfest
CYPRESS - The Langham Creek Lobos (5-2, 4-2) got a hard fought 21-13 win in 17-5A play Saturday night at Pridgeon Stadium over a feisty Jersey Village Falcons (3-4, 2-4).
Langham Creek QB Kyle Cutbirth threw for 194 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another score to pace the LCHS offense. Cutbirth was harrassed all night as he was sacked ten times by a very quick Jersey Village defense.
Langham Creek opened the game with an impressive drive scoring on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Cutbirth to Tyler Williams to take a 7-0 lead. There would be no other scoring until 38 seconds left in the half as Cutbirth scored on an 18 yard run making it 14-0 Lobos.
Jersey Village would finally get on the board late in the third quarter as after recovering a Langham Creek fumble, sophomore QB Deshun Qualls hooked up with Tyus Gray on a five yard touchdown pass making it 14-7 Creek.
Jersey Village had a couple of chances to tie the game, but the Falcons couldn't get anything consistent going. Langham Creek would put the game away on a six yard run by Cutbirth making it 21-7 with 5:50 left. JVHS would answer quickly as Qualls scored on a magnificent 26 yard run to cut the lead to 21-13. Jersey Village would not be able to get the game any closer and LCHS would hang on for the win.
