First of all, I want to take this opportunity to wish Corey Fullbright all the best in the world, and our thoughts and prayers are with him.
Second of all, I'd like to wish everyone who reads this and your families a safe, healthy and enjoyable holiday season. TPX will still be active during the new year, with the finalization of all district teams, all area and all state teams, the first word on combines, signing day information and off season appetizers to get you ready for football season next year. Check back regularly for all the new information, as well as the message boards will still be up and running all year long.

And now it's time for this year's state championship picks.
Southlake Carroll vs. Smithson Valley -- If anyone would have predicted this, even the Southlake Carroll faithful, it would be a shock. The gap between 4A and 5A might as well be non existent with these two small 5A schools that elevated from the ranks this past year in the state championship, over the perennial favorites. Southlake will win this game, and they very well may blow out Smithson Valley. Smithson Valley will have to jump out early and play a complete game. Southlake has been vulnerable to first half deficits only to come roaring back in the second half. Southlake is definitely a second half team, despite the fact that most of their regular season games had no first teamers playing the second half. I pick Southlake by 3 TD's live on TV.
Matt's Pick: Southlake Carroll
Denton Ryan vs. Brenham -- It's going to take more than blue bell ice cream to defeat Denton Ryan. Much like Southlake, their will to win supercedes any first half jump that might be had on them. Also, like the first game, Brenham's key to winning is a big first half lead and exclusive smart ball control in the second half. Ennis went risky trying to go for the jugular and practically defeated themselves. Brenham will have to avoid that, and make sure they have complete control of the game. James Battle is a stud, and he wants to go out in what could be the end of the Denton Ryan dynasty. The defense is an underrated aspect of the team, with Washington and Jefferson anchoring the secondary. I think Denton Ryan distances themselves early and gives north Texas their second D2 championship.
Matt's Pick: Denton Ryan
3A
Midland Greenwood vs. Bandera -- Converse Judson prevented the double Midland championships, but I don't feel that Bandera will be preventing this one.
Matt's Pick: Midland Greenwood
2A
Cisco vs. Rosebud-Lott -- Funny not seeing Celina in this game. Rosebud-Lott has a loss, but has the momentum to take this one.
Matt's Pick: Rosebud-Lott
1A
Petrolia vs. Celeste -- Celeste should bring Collin County their championship this year.
Matt's Pick: Celeste
