DESOTO - The DeSoto Eagles (8-0, 5-0) clinched their 18th straight trip to the playoffs with a convincing 55-29 win over the Duncanville Panthers (4-4, 2-3) in a District 7-5A contest at Eagle Stadium. DeSoto was led by quarterback Desmon White as the TCU verbal commit dazzled with 546 yards of total offense while throwing for four scores and running for two scores.
DeSoto rolled up 448 yards of offense in the first half as they raced out to a 35-15 halftime lead. The Eagles fumbled at the Duncanville one on their opening drive and then scored on five consecutive possessions, with White having a hand in four of those scores. The second score capped off a 99 yard drive as White hooked up with Oklahoma State verbal commit Chris Lacy for a 40 yard touchdown pass making it 14-0. Lacy would finish the night with eight receptions for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
After Duncanville got on the board to cut the lead to 20-7, DeSoto quickly answered scoring on a four play drive that lasted just 25 seconds.
Duncanville tried to make a game of it scoring on their opening drive of the third quarter as Derrell Haynes scored on a six yard run to cut the DeSoto lead to 35-22. DeSoto would score the next 20 points of the game to end any hopes of a Duncanville comeback. White would hook up with Lacy for two touchdown passes and William Jackson would score on a short run for the final DeSoto points. Duncanville would add a defensive touchdown in the fourth as Corey Smith scooped up a fumble and went untouched 28 yards for the final points of the evening.
DeSoto can wrap up at least a share of the District 7-5A title with a win next week at Grand Prairie, while Duncanville no longer controls their playoff destiny as the Panthers will need to win their final two games and hope for some help to advance to the postseason.
