Darrell Colbert commits to SMU

Junior quarterback Darrell Colbert of Houston Lamar High School committed to Southern Methodist University today after attending the university's junior day.
University of Houston, Iowa State and Texas Tech were among some of the universities that had shown interest in the 5'10" dual-threat quarterback, but SMU was the only program to offer him a scholarship. But it wasn't just the offer that hooked him.

"First of all, it was the academic part that was wonderful. " Colbert said. "My parents liked it a lot. I got to talk to coach Jones about the quarterback position. It was just a great opportunity and I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity that I have with coach Jones, one of the best quarterback coaches in the game."
Colbert has one final season at Lamar before heading to Dallas. After committing to a division one football program he has just one goal left.
"Win the State Championship." Colbert said. "Getting this out of the way was huge for me. Now I can worry about my senior season and getting back to the state championship game."
