Cedar Hill Answers the Bell in top 10 clash

BEDFORD- It's always a rarity when two top ten teams meet in the regular season, but its even rarer when it's the top two teams in the state. However, on a rainy night at Pennington Field we got that treat as AP #1 and THEOLDCOACH #1 Cedar Hill improved to 3-0 with a hard fought 23-14 win over AP #2 and THEOLDCOACH #6 Euless Trinity. The Trojans with the loss fell to 1-1 on the season and it's just their third loss in the regular season in the past five years.
Cedar Hill's defense put together a dominant performance holding the Trinity ground game in check, namely Trinity junior RB Tevin Williams who was held to 82 yards on 21 carries. DL Josh Parks, DE Christian White and LB Aaron Benson led the effort.

The Longhorns battled adversity throughout as already playing the game without Texas A&M commit Ben Malena they lost backup RB Mason Hayes for a period of time in the second half as well. Arkansas commit K Eduardo Camara also missed the game with a sprained knee but backup kicker Devall Young nailed three field goals despite the rainy conditions.
After a Young field goal put the Longhorns up 3-0, junior QB Driphus Jackson tossed a 36 yard touchdown pass to Cody Berry to put CHHS up 9-0. It appeared the Longhorns were poised to break the game wide open as Elisha Olabode picked off an errant Willie Hubbard pass and returned it deep into THS territory. The Trinity defense was able to hold and momentum began to switch to the home side.
A long drive led by strong running from FB Damien Hart was capped off on a three yard touchdown run by Williams with 2:33 left in the first half to cut the lead to 9-7. CHHS was able to get a score right before halftime as Young added his second field goal of the day and CHHS led 12-7 at halftime.
Trinity's defense made a big stand early in the second half stopping Cedar Hill on a fourth and goal from the one but the offense was unable to move the ball out of the shadow of their own goal post. A short punt set Cedar Hill up deep in Trinity territory and the Longhorns would capitalize on an eight yard run by Hayes who also added the two point run to make it 20-7 Cedar Hill.
Trinity would quickly answer as Hubbard scored on a 63 yard touchdown run as he outran the Cedar Hill secondary to the pylon to make it 20-14. The Longhorns would add a third young field goal in the fourth and the defense would take care of the rest to seal the win.
Cedar Hill next week will host Arlington Martin, while Trinity hosts Allen in a rematch of the Class 5A Division I State Quarter-Final won by Allen.
