Class 4A 10th-ranked Brownwood defeated No. 1 Copperas Cove, 17-10, after Cove's standout senior quarterback Robert Griffin was ejected in the first quarter after getting two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Brownwood got another standout performance from quarterback Casey Pachall. Brownwood,which expects to drop to Class 3A with dwindling enrollment, overcame the larger enrollment Cove, which likely will go back to Class 5A.
Cove's Griffin,a national track star hurdler who has committed to Houston, argued with referees after getting hit by
Brownwood on a pass attempt. Griffin's protest led to two penalties and his ejection.
Class 4A Division II defending state champ La Marque beat Friendswood, 27-20.
La Marque rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit.
The win was No. 500 in Cougars history (500-213-17) and extended their winning streak to 19.
"We knew it was going to be a game with big plays on both sides and big momentum swings on both sides," La Marque first-year coach Chris Jones said. "You can't sit there and get all upset about it. You have to know that your plays are coming."
In Class 5A
Plano East (6-0, 3-0 in District 9-5A) led 14-0 in the first four minutes and 38-0 at the half. Junior running back Toben Opurum and senior quarterback Riko Smalls piled up some stats against the outmanned and winless Eagles. Opurum ended with 103 yards rushing on 13 carries, one rushing touchdown and two receiving. Smalls, still slightly hampered by a toe injury, passed for 185 yards and four touchdowns. And they only played through one series in the second half.
In Class 5A, Allen and Plano East (both 6-0) remain headed for a District 9-5A title showdown the last week of the season.
Allen defeated Wylie, 41-21. Plano East rolled over Richardson, 54-0.
"We're trying to be as precise as we can on every drive," fourth-year East coach Johnny Ringo said. "We've had times when we had offensive lulls and we're trying to eliminate those. As we go through this district we have to."
