Brenham's defense was the story on the day holding Mayde Creek to negative yardage after three quarters before allowing a 31 yard touchdown run by QB Lucas Leonard on the first play of the fourth quarter.
After being dominated in field position for most of the first quarter Brenham struck first as Reese hauled in his first touchdown reception of the day from 25 yards out to give the Cubs a 6-0 lead after one quarter as the PAT was no good. Early in the second quarter Mayde Creek took their only lead of the game as Tim Ward scooped up a Schlottman fumble and returned it twelve yards for the score to give the Rams a 7-6 lead. Brenham quickly got the lead back as Green returned the ensuing kickoff 74 yards to the house to get the Cubs the lead back at 14-7 as the two point conversion was good.
The lead grew to 21-7 before halftime as after a Mayde Creek fumble Schlottman and Reese hooked up for a 31 yard hookup.
Early in the third quarter Brenham's special teams notched a score as Kenneth Allen tackled the Mayde Creek punter in the end zone making it 23-7. After the free kick Schlottman and Emon Smith connected for a 12 yard touchdown pass giving Brenham a 30-7 cushion. The lead swelled to 37-7 as Reese hauled in touchdown number three from nine yards out on a spectacular one handed grab with very tight coverage.
After Leonard's touchdown run to start the fourth quarter for Mayde Creek, both teams brought in backups for the most part to finish the game out.
