All-District : Allen, Plano, Wylie share honors

A high-powered District 8-5A turned into some high-power post-season honors divided equally _ and rightfully so _ among district champ Allen, Plano and Wylie.
With Allen and Wylie still continuing marches for state titles in Division I and II, respectively, the district's coaches agreed to release their All-District selections to theoldcoach.
With unanimous selections, Plano senior running back Rex Burkhead was the District MVP while Allen junior quarterback Matt Brown was the Offensive Player of the Year and Wylie senior noseguard Nikita Whitlock is the Defensive Player of the Year.
Allen coach Tom Westerberg was named Coach of the Year as he guided the Eagles to their third-consecutive undefeated district title.
The depth and quality includes three quarterbacks _ Plano's Carson Meger, Allen's Brown and Wylie's Jerod Monk _ who accounted for more than 3,000-yards apiece in total offense.
In arguably the state's top 5A district with Allen and Wylie in the remaining eight division finalists in the state football playoffs, nearly 30 of the all-district selections are considered major college prospects.
