Aledo senior quarterback Tanner McDonald was selected as District 6-4A's Most Valuable Player for 2008 in a vote of the district coaches. McDonald proved himself a solid passing and running threat in his first year as starting quarterback, led the Bearcats to a 7-0 district mark and 10-0 regular season record.
McDonald and standout freshman running back Jonathan Gray stepped up to replace Aledo's offensive catalyst of the last two years _ Cole Loftin. The elusive 5-9, 170-pound Gray was Aledo's top rusher with 967 yards.
Aledo's 16-year head coach Tim Buchanan and his staff were named 6-4A's Coaching Staff of the Year. Aledo finished 11-1 but was ousted in the second round of the state playoffs in a showdown of undefeateds. No. 2-ranked Everman eliminated Aledo with the Bearcats' only loss.
Aledo senior safety Jesse Wright was the Defensive Player of the Year. Birdville's standout junior quarterback Josh Dorman was named the Offensive MVP after establishing himself as one of the state's top quarterbacks. Dorman threw for 3,360 with 33 touchdowns in completing 265 of 382 attempts with only eight interceptions.
