The Class 4A All State Team is loaded with Division I prospects that may compete on the collegiate level, others that will continue their gridiron career, and all who had memorable 2010 seasons.
The Class 4A Player of the Year is Aledo's Johnathan Gray. Gray torched La Marque's defense for 325 yards and eight touchdowns in the Bearcats' 69-34 rout leading Aledo to its second consecutive Class 4A Division II state championship.
Gray's eight touchdowns increased his season total to 59 and shattering the 57-year-old record of 57 set by Sugar Land's Ken Hall. This season Gray rushed for 3218 yards on 352 attempts.
Through three varsity seasons, Gray has rushed for 7,000 yards on 868 carries and 124 touchdowns. Gray has an additional 11 touchdown receptions.
The Class 4A Coach of the Year award will be given to Randy Jackson of Mesquite Poteet.
Jackson turned Poteet's football program in one season. Poteet (12-3) was 1-19 over the last two seasons and Jackson had the Pirates in the state semifinal game in his first year at the school. It is the farthest Poteet has been in the playoffs in school history.
Jackson was 50-20 at Lone Oak before taking the job.
"Class 4A has a strong tradition of championship football, outstanding athletes, and competitive programs. "The vision, with our sponsor AAA of Texas, is to acknowledge the students and their accomplishments as a testament to the quality of the programs, coaches, and players in all classifications across Texas."
"I'm pleased that our staff of writers and analysts go the extra mile to make sure we provide a feature which pays tribute to Texas high school football players that deserve the recognition for their accomplishments."
"We appreciate AAA Texas and Elvan Jones for the sponsorship of this program to highlight student athletes and continue to honor coaches for their efforts working with young men from across the state."
