2010 All-District: 10-4A

Jake Howeth, from District Champion Highland Park, took home top honors from the vote of the District 10-4A coaches being named the District MVP.

Howeth, the versatile athlete, rushed for 1265 yards on 189 attempts (28 TD's) and passed for 1424 yards with 104 completions out of 184 attempts. Howeth threw 15 TD's with only 4 interceptions. Howeth also was a stalwart for his dad, Mark Howeth, Highland Park DC, on the defensive side of the ball.
Rockwall's quarterback Alan Reed was named the District Offensive MVP. Reed passed for 2,580 yards and threw 24 touchdown passes while having only 8 passes intercepted out of 249 attempts.
The Defensive Player of the Year recognition went McKinney North's Marquel Sheppard.
Highland Park's Randy Allen was named Coach of the Year leading the Scots to the Class 4A Division II Region II Semi-final round of the playoffs before Highland Park was ousted by Mesquite Poteet by a convincing 45-21 at Cowboy Stadium. Allen started his coaching at HP in 1999 and became the program's all-time leader in victories with a 12-1 record giving him a 140-16 mark at Highland Park which surpassed the 134-43-1 record of the great Frank Bevers tenure.
Allen shows no sign of slowing down at Highland Park, maybe he'll even stay around long enough to coach his grandkids after daughter Ashley married 1996 HP team captain Pete Flowers and live near Highlander Stadium with three grandkids.
Wylie has been one of the state's 2010 playoff surprises with a semifinal run in meeting Denton Ryan at SMU's Ford Stadium. QB Nico Ramirez and receiver Jermaine Merdock have keyed an offense and the emergence of standout junior noseguard Noble Nwachukwu has helped an already tough defense. Nwachukwu (6-4, 240) isn't quite a Nikita Whitlock, who led Wylie to the '08 5A final before signing with Wake Forest, but Nwachukwu has a much better body and is climbing recruiting radars.
Highland Park will return a top junior duo with quarterback Brady Burgin, who passed for 1,982 and 16 TDs sharing time with Howeth, and receiver Dalton Stogner, who will be a major college receiver at 6-3,190-pounds and excellent speed. Watch top linebacker Guy Tom Kellog for the Class of '13 as well.
For Rockwall, watch for standout DB and return specialist Spencer Edwards to be one of the district's top players for 2011.
